Students Enrolled in Springfield Programs at the West Plains Campus

Teacher Education

When Missouri State University-West Plains students decide to enter the elementary education program they need to make an appointment with Susan Johnson, at (417) 255-7930.

Admission

West Plains students are admitted to the Teacher Education program upon completion of ELE 302 with a “C” or higher if all additional requirements are met which include:  COM 115 w/C or higher, EDC 150 (or SFR 250) w/C or higher, at least 30 or more hours completed, all components of CBASE passed with 265 or higher, a combined GPA of a 2.5 or higher, and ACT score on file if required by DESE, passed first portfolio checkpoint and a highway patrol background check.  Eligible candidates are presented to the PEC for final approval.

An exception plan is in place as designed by the Admission, Retention and Procedures Committee, a sub-committee of the PEC.  W. Plains students are informed of this plan and all students follow the same procedures for consideration.

Students not admitted to Teacher Education after completion of ELE 302 are “CT” encumbered in order to prohibit enrollment in subsequent professional education methods courses thus preventing progression in the program until all requirements are fulfilled.
